“The Road to Character” by David Brooks

There is an inverse logic to the way most of us live. It’s a moral logic, not an economic one. You have to give to receive. You have to surrender to something outside yourself to gain the gtg within yourself. You have to conquer your desire to get what you crave. Success leads to the greatest failure, which is pride. Failure leads to the greatest soccers, which is humility and learning. In order to fulfill yourself, you have to forget yourself. In order to find yourself, you have to lose yourself.

Humility is the awareness that there’s a lot you don’t know and that a lot of what you think you know is distorted or wrong.

We can be knowledgeable with other men’s knowledge, but we can’t be wise with other men’s wisdom.
