“The Organized Mind” praises the value of literary fiction in helping us become more cognitively flexible and empathetic towards others emotions. Not 100% sure if “The Hunger Games” trilogy falls under pulp fiction, to which there is questionable value, but I personally feel that when something moves you, it’s worth exploring. This particular excerpt is from the third book in the series. It is a poem delivered by Katniss to her children in the future, long past the turmoil of her previous life. I feel that sometimes we take these moments for granted because they are simple to appreciate.
- Deep in the meadow, under the willow
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes
And when again they open, the sun will rise. Here it’s safe, here it’s warm.
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.
