“Why Being a Cynic Gets You Nowhere” Men’s Health May 2014

View the original Men’s Health article here. In addition to books, I find a lot of real-life inspirational advice from Men’s Health. It’s a publication I trust and read often. This article on cynicism helped me keep things in perspective when there was a lot of negativity swirling around in my own life. It’s oftentimes very easy to let that negativity take us in and muddy the path we set for ourselves.

“There are no successful cynics. Real success, any way society measures it—money, fame, happiness, family—cannot be achieved in the presence of cynicism. “Cynics love to put their finger on disease before they put it on health. It’s the easy way to go. Play the blame game. ‘I got screwed’. ‘That should’ve been mine.’ They’re all dead-end answers.” “Just keep livin’” Make the evolving choice, the forward-moving, life-giving choice. WORK THROUGH NEGATIVES BY WORKING THROUGH THE POSITIVES. Elite performance requires a sincere belief in the cause. Cynicism cannot exist in the same space as sincere belief. “If you’re motivated and doing the right thing, good things are going to happen.”
